For over ONE month I surrendered you to ancient MSR features. Can I offer you an attractive sorry? Mr. MSR was immersed in rising up new projects and winning concepts! But I am back, and although I may not post daily, know that I will never malnourish your style spirits as I recently did. Speaking of winning ideas, I have been beefing up the video content (I did say I’ll get on camera after welcoming ’09!) during the MSR nonappearance.

ARE YOU SERIOUS?

The film junkie within is always on prowl for excellent films. Documentaries, in particular, leave off impacting impressions. Looking at the recent Sundance Film Festival lineup I divinely ran into “The September Issue.” I am on tip-toes eagerly waiting for the picture to hit NYC. (Sundance Film Festival brings the entire festival for ONE week to NYC ever year (Brooklyn, to be exact).)

The documentary storms through the floor-to-ceiling glass doors of VOGUE perched with editrix Anna Vintrour and A-team (Grace Coddington, Anna Wintour, Andre Leon Talley, and many more) and document the step-by-step creation of the 2007 September VOGUE issue; the primetime issue month for VOGUE and most magazines. I noted over 800+ pages in the 2007 September edition in my archive. Can you imagine the vast behind-the-scenes footage R.J. Cutler documented for the aforementioned Fall tome?!!

Before venturing into the menswear expert field, marketing and advertising held my [career] heart. I dissected advertisers and seen the heavy control their ad dollars influenced magazine directions and decisions. VOGUE is completely opposite from other publications when September comes bellowing. Advertisers, ranging from high-glamorous to average denim labels compete for a coveted page in September VOGUE.

To see the behind-the-curtains of a ‘Fashion Bible’ (industry termed) I believe makes this documentary a must-see-must-watch.

MARC JACOBS AND LOUIS VUITTON’S FANTASTIC DOCUMENTARY

During the past weekend Sundance Channel aired a marathon of style-centered feature films and documentaries (entitled Ready to Watch). Due to the back-to-back lineup, I made sure to preset my DVR (aka TIVO to others) settings so not even a speckle of greatness would get overlooked. Plus, it’s excellent for future referencing and/or inspiration.

Loic Prigent’s documentary, in personal belief, gripped the film laurels this weekend amongst the other features. I have been advised relentlessly to ingest the strength-bearing documentary, from numerous friends and colleagues. I understood after watching this weekend, the cause for the verbal repetitiveness. The documentary rocks out!

In short, the documentary journeys inside the expansive world of megastar designer Marc Jacobs as he prepares for two grand Spring collections: Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs. The film captures the entire design process—from opening concept to final execution. Loic Prigent extracts viewers making them be apart of the Marc Jacobs’ earth. From Paris to New York to Japan back to Paris you’re on a design-filled adventure. Adding to all the inclusively, you get a defined picture on the intricate process (especially Louis Vuitton) and design workmanship pumped into two storied fashion labels.

JANELLE MONAÉ NEW MANY MOONS VIDEO.

I premiered the cutting edge Janelle Monaé music video while trekking the elliptical. I was thrown off course but for meaningful reasons. The video was unbelievable! Janelle Monaé wrote a video treatment which artists just aren’t materializing anymore. The music video finds a close correlation to a short movie a la Michael Jackson. Besides the material creativity, her chic mild androgynous outfits were highly appealing.

I decided to implement " Are You Serious?" as a new highlight to MSR. I encounter many unbelievable things—great and horrible—that I want to showoff. In launching the new feature, witness this unreal championship ping-pong match I encountered on Ellen.

OBSESSION: MISS INDEPENDENT VIDEO

Last week I made mention of my obsession with Neyo’s new single: Miss Independent. Men all over approve the hit track! Why? It’s super-relevant. The days of YouTubin’ the video less song is over. Fresh on the heels of his first single Closer, a new video for Miss Independent recently graced airwaves. After 15 seconds into watching, the video latches on like a great sale steal from Bergdorf Goodman (at least that’s my take about it).

The only disappointment: I would have had preferred sans backup male dancers and new outfit palettes (we continue seeing Neyo in Gray). For a slight second I thought it was additional footages for the Closer video. Fresh faces—Gabrielle Union, Lauren London, and Keri Hilson heightens the video sexiness and appeal. Neyo extol the starlets’ independent and boss-lady strut—all while remaining suave and composed.

I just saw this clip and was cracking up on Obama getting down with Ellen. This man got moves!

ALICIA KEYS' NEW TRACK!

My wife Alicia Keys (no offense Krucial) has done it again with her new fire hit: Teenage Love Affair! It's cool and definitely channels your teenage puppy love days. You know--let's go to the movies and McDonald afterwards or the priceless: "hey baby, let me take you to Six Flags" for the day. The fellas in my era always sealed the deal with those initiatives!

Any how, listen to the track. As for the song's music video (releasing nationally Wednesday), I got exclusives views and it's pretty cool. The video basically channels the Spike Lee classic School Daze. In the video, she's sports a young 'fly-girl' (or 'Meeoow Girl' from the movie) look with funky jackets and door knocker earrings. Also, Derek Luke (channeling Laurence Fishburne from the movie), makes a cameo in the video who I presume is her interest in the video. In closing, kudos to the stylist (not sure if her stylist Wouri did the full cast) for outfitting the video with some strong looks.

ARE YOU VIBING TO 'DIAMOND GIRL' LIKE WE ARE @ MSR?!

Ryan Leslie, where was your talents hiding (performer skills that is)? I guess you wanted to put your poster-child Cassie first, huh? Well tell you what, (I know you're reading) the wait was worth it bro! The new track, 'Diamond Girl' is a instant banger and I know it's set the stage for more lethal RL productions to come.

Shout out to the video director for nailing the '60s contemporary mod-feel look!

Speaking of mod, I like the incorporation of the tuxedos--it's way appropriate for the song. Thanks for showing the masses MEN are still dressing up. And it's more to R&B and Rap videos than just oversize hang'n jeans and hyper-embellished jeweled t-shirts.

In the end of video, you make a truthful statement: You want to replay the track after listening! I know my butt did, and again for the thrice.

EASY LIKE SUNDAY MORNING!

Sunday--Refreshing and Relaxing. There's this unexplainable chill out factor the day possess.

Today's "In the Spirit" fueled this entry, and I wanted to highlight some chill music that automatically reverts the senses back to relaxing.

Like everyone else, Mr. MSR is still cooing after the MacBook Air advert. And the song featured in the campaign--New Soul by Yael Naim--is a favorite track to chillax to.



My brethren Kwasi recently introduced me to the Zoot Woman band and I'm hooked on their single It's Automatic (released 2001). The single reiterates 'Automatic' beyond belief, but the track's fresh and pulsating instrumentals makes hearing the repetitiveness bearable. Zoot Woman is one of the early members of the electroclash (new wave meets electro dance) scene.

WE ARE THE ONES: VOTE BARACK

Will.I.Am strikes directorial gold with his 2^nd video for Mr. Obama. The piece candidness almost lures you to Texas to vote or re-vote for Barack. Besides banking on his celeb leveraging, his subjects (some non-celebs as well) conveyed a sense of ‘realness’ that shimmers through the screen. I believe the video was well produced and I can bet there’s another dedication video already brewing.

CRUZ B. : DANCER IN THE MAKING

I recently saw this YouTube gem perusing. I was amazed by the acrobatic moves the young dancer possessed. It's Cruz Beckham ;(what a cool name. great for branding) son of David & Victoria. His break dancing moves shown some dad footworks and mom's stage presence.

His swagg is definitely a noticeable heirloom.

My favorite part of the video: His cool-boy stance in the end!

The video premiered recently on MTV's "TRl". Zoe Kravitz (MS R vixen and ultimate sweetheart) dominated the entire video with her chic presence.

Great job with this track Pharrell. I'm feeling this song will be a Spring/Summer banger.
