LOUIS VUITTON POPS NYC

Last night, the heart of Downtown (NYC!) visually screamed Louis Vuitton X Stephen Sprouse tribute print. The tribute-centered soirée took place in three-part celebrations ( very insane!). The rainbow-hue prints cornered constructive likings from partygoers and particular invitees, even came partying the popping monogram on their frames.

BUZZ: FIT COUTURE COUNCIL HONORS ISABEL TOLEDO

Isabel Toledo—pretty, sensational, and a magnificent designer. On Wednesday at the Rainbow Room, Fashion Institute of Technology Couture Council feted the Cuban designer with a splendid luncheon. The chicest and debonair of people came pouring out to champion Isabel Toledo’s talent and tireless devotion to fashion designing. Pre-luncheon, attendees sipped on savoring Bellini's and mingled the corridors cueing for shots.

The event brought out tons of fashion luminaries: Andre Leon Talley (VOGUE), Cecilia Dean (V Magazine), Glenda Bailey (Harper's BAZAAR), Stephen Gan (Harper's BAZZAR), Michaela Angela Davis, Fabiola Beracasa , Lynn Yaeger (The Village Voice), Narciso Rodriguez (Designer), Dr. Joyce Brown (FIT President), Iris Apfel and many more. Isabel creations (which many ladies and certain men reintroduced classic designs) were timeless and that was the residual reflection in many conversations, and speeches that traveled across the luncheon.

Simon Doonan (Barneys Creative Director) held the Master of Ceremonies role and tickled the attendees with reoccurring English comedy. Isabel Toledo’s story became bright and lively during a touching retrospective slideshow featuring her traffic-stopping designs (the Packing Dress) to a more familial side—showcasing husband Ruben Toledo and her Cuban family. Ruben Toledo (who I briefly chatted up) constructed the most artistic placemats out of black ink highlighting different face outlines of Isabel. (Mr. MSR plans to convert the placemat into an exposed painting.)

Isabel, cheers to you and Ruben, and thanks for letting us be apart of your life through your designs. Andre Leon Talley said it best, “Isabel I want to be like you when I grow up”, and I think that was the case for every patron who went to celebrate her life.

CFDA/VOGUE FUND EVENT LAST NIGHT!

The über-fied (sp) and done up Bowery Hotel was the locale for the annual ‘CFDA/VOGUE Fashion Fund’ benefit. Host of last night’s event included Vogue's Sally Singer and Meredith Melling Burke, and Bonnie Morrison (PR GURU turn Special Projects Editor) of Men's Vogue. The fund was crafted to help and nurture American design talent. The results: The designers receive mentoring from a top-tier fashion panel of professionals who matches up with the designers’ needs and future goals. Past design beneficiaries included Doo-Ri Chung, Kate and Laura Mulleavy ,Thakoon Panichgul, Derek Lam and Proenza Schouler, just to mention a few.

Each year, GAP partners with Vogue and CFDA to host the exclusive event in NYC. In conjunction as event partner, GAP uses the FUND recipients to reinterpret the classic white shirt; allowing the designers to add their interesting twists and design craftsmanship. Besides the slew of designers, the fund added jewelry designer (way to go! jewelry designers are out there too) Philip Crangi into the design mix.

The designs (pictured above) were wicked—but us GENTS could only connect with the masculine cuts and western-inspired shirts of Michael Bastian. Hopefully with Men’s Vogue on board we’ll see at least two menswear designers each year.

Wednesday
-Gucci dinner on the North Lawn of the UN (the most anticipated party of the week—Madonna, Demi, and Gwyneth are slated to show according to Gucci’s PR camp).
-Phillip Lim (definitely new and fresh talent) dinner at Socialista.

Thursday
-Calvin Klein dinner at the Waverly Inn

Friday
-Morphed Marc Jacobs’ event at 24 fifth.

Then the following Monday, Bill Blass’ Peter Som gets honored with a dinner at Saks Fifth Avenue.

That basically sums up my event wrap sheet. Hopefully, I will cross paths with you at one of these events.
