Sir. Yves Saint Laurent, came bursting toe-to-toe, with Coco Chanel and other designers dressing the fashion-forwards of his era. Mr. Laurent made history as a champion-winning designer (crafting a snazzy cocktail dress) in the International Wool Secretariat contest. Oh, yea, note he was only 17!! Y.S.L. created history for a second go-around, earning Head of the Christian Dior House, at a tender 21. Take notice design students!
I was enthralled into his early works from assisting a friend with her school project. The man gave power to feminine styles with sharp-edged tailoring. Men!, although he designed women's ready-to-wear and amazing couture, Yves made belted safari jackets (Barbour, Gucci, etc.) we proudly boast today fashion-relevant in the '60s.
